Atkinson PTO Volunteer Information

All school volunteers MUST fill out a CORI Form. Please print a copy of the form, complete it, and return to the main office..

Board Members

PTO Board Members are elected positions with two year terms. The current board was elected in June 2019 with a term running through June 2021. If you are interested in serving on the Board in the future and want to learn more about what it entails, please contact a current board member to discuss your interest.

2020/2021 Event Chairs

The larger scale events, such as the Guardian/Son event and the All Star Holiday Helpers, require MANY volunteers. There is typically a chairperson for each major category (food, decor, raffle baskets, volunteer coordinator, etc.) and many more volunteers to support the category chairperson. All volunteer requests will be advertised on the home page of this website in advance of the events.

Atkinson Lending Library

Each classroom gets to enjoy a half hour slot each week where they are able to come into the Lending Library and select a book. In order to offer this service, our library requires the assistance of many volunteers to check books in and out, re-shelving, and help students locate books. It is such a great feeling to see the smiles on the students' faces when they enter each week with the chance to select a book. If you have the time to give, it is a wonderful volunteer opportunity. Your assistance is greatly appreciated not only by the teachers and staff, but especially by the children.

Thank you for your support!

North Andover School Enrichment Council

Looking to volunteer and not sure where to start? Want to get involved, yet time is limited? Curious about how to enrich your child's experience? Check out The North Andover School Enrichment Council! The NA Enrichment Council schedules the programs that visit the elementary and middle schools each year. You might have heard of such programs as the beloved Whale Mobile and the always fun Bubblemania, to name a couple. As a rep for Atkinson, you help schedule the shows and share information with your school about the upcoming programs. While the time commitment isn't huge, the impact is great. The programs brought in to the schools add tremendous value to the curriculum and offer students experiences beyond those found in an ordinary classroom. Atkinson would love to have another rep or two on the council. Please email the PTO or Elizabeth Guilbeault for more information.

The Enrichment Council meets the first Wednesday of the month during the school year from 9:00-11:00 am at the Joseph N. Hermann Youth Center.

Understanding our Differences

How do you teach elementary school children to develop understanding and respect for fellow students and others with physical, sensory or developmental disabilities? How can you reduce bullying, name-calling, and intolerance? Understanding Our Differences is a model, interactive disability awareness curriculum that teaches children to see the whole person and better understands the disability. The Understanding Our Differences program educates schools and communities and fosters respect and inclusion for people of all abilities.

The curriculum covers Blindness and Low Vision, Deafness and Hard of Hearing, Autism, Physical Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, and Chronic Medical Conditions including Allergic Conditions, Asthma, Diabetes, and Epilepsy.

Understanding Our Differences is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a national leader in disability awareness education, with unique expertise developed over its 40-year history.

UoD is in its 5th year in North Andover! They're looking for volunteers to help run this successful program. You can join us just once, or you can join us regularly! There are short videos to show you how you'll be helping, & Maureen and/or Heidi will be at every program to lend a hand when needed! We guarantee you'll enjoy it! All you need is a CORI, which covers all the schools in town. You don't have to be an NA parent-- anytime can fill out a CORI form at any school (or at the central office) and about 2 weeks later you're in! Message us with any questions, or go to www.understandingourdifferences.org!
